Celebrating 20 years

In 2003, 20 year old professional dancer Katrina qualified as a dance teacher from Preston Dance College. Living her dream, Katrina performed on stages, theatres and TV. In between  performances,  Katrina entered the classroom, teaching her first dance classes to a dozen students at Greenfield Community Centre in Blackburn, and then expanded into Darwen Community Centre, as her reputation grew. Katrina started to teach ballet, tap, jazz and musical theatre.

Katrina says, “I’ve always loved children and once I got in the dance studio and started sharing my passion for dance with them, I knew that was where I wanted to be.”

Fast forward two decades, several enhanced dance teaching qualifications, a marriage and three children, Katrina now teaches 92 students in all, the youngest just two years old. Her classes have grown to include drama, performing arts and acrobatic arts. KDA also offers two pre-school classes, Jazzy Toes and Tippy Toes..

There’s nowhere else Katrina would rather be: “It’s hard to put into words how much I love being a dance teacher. Every child is unique and whether my students come to class because they want to pursue dance as a career, or as a way to build their confidence, it’s incredibly rewarding for me to see them blossom and grow through dance and performing arts.
